More of Dr. Sara’s Story

When Dr. Sara was a young girl, her great-grandmother would visit family. Sara and her sisters hoped she’d bring presents, cookies, maybe a Barbie or two–like her friends’ grandparents. But her great-grandmother, when she stepped off the plane from California, was pulling a suitcase full of kale, fish oil, wheat berries and Meyer lemons.

“Confused” would be a nice way to describe our reaction. But Sara’s great granny was a biohacker, and believed you don’t find the answer to health in a prescription pill bottle, you find it in how your construct your life and manage your dashboard.

When you’re a little girl used to PopTarts, being fed kale is tough. But as Dr. Sara spent more time with her great-grandmother, she found that sometimes those who do the strangest things are the ones who know best. And they often have the best recommendations.

    Can Dave or Sara give a range and ideal for TotalT/Estradiol and/or FreeT/Estradiol ratios they speak of? For men. On that note what about ideal ranges for all the keystone blood tests? Looks like the book has them for females, I’m looking for male numbers.

    Phosphorylated-Serine… in my experience beats the hell out of Phosphatidyl-Serine… Take a gram of the former, in the evening and feel the difference when you wake up.

    Unfortunately, the only source I’ve found is a mix of -serine and -ethanolamine… But it works.

    Great job Dave on that podcast. I like especially the birth control section. I too believe that taking anti pregnancy pills has a huge negative impact on woman’s body and probably on future baby too. It’s fricking unnatural chemical. Guys, tell your girls to stop taking them and use a kondom instead.

    hello, in her book Gottfried speaks against COFFEE. also against fat. how come you guys didn’t talk about that?

    i think she names the acrylamides in coffee as the problem.

      I am also opposed to industrial coffee, just as I am opposed to industrial meat supplies, as both are full of toxins. We use a medium roast to dramatically reduce acrylamide, and have written about why dark roasts are not a great choice for that reason. I don’t drink most coffee because it is harmful to performance, but the opposite is true of Bulletproof Process coffee, which I use as an adaptogenic herb. It is documented to increase executive function, and we know the compounds in coffee (diterpenes) that reduce inflammation in the brain.
