I just finished my first week and a half of bulletproof coffee.

I started with the full recipe, with the butter and the coconut oil. Then tried it with the vanilla and chocolate powders, and cinnamon. I also tried adding the cocoa butter on some days. I used Truvia as a sweetener.

Then, my partner wanted to try it too. So, he went for the full mix, and then also just for the coffee with half and half (gasp!). With just the half and half, no sweetener

I'm 50 and he's 53. We use a Vitamix. We each have 2-3 cups a morning.

So far here are my(our) results:

On its own, plain black, the Upgraded Bulletproof coffee we ordered is great tasting. I will continue to buy it. With just half and half it is also really tasty. No bitterness, no/low acid taste. Totally worth the money.

As for the recipe with all the added butter and oil, and/or with the powders, the coffee concoction definitely needs sweetener. I'm still trying to find/adjust the correct amounts of all the additives for taste. I think I added too much of the chocolate, didn't like the cinnamon at all, and I can't bring myself to add more than 3 tablespoons of the butter (for two cups).

After gamely trying what I prepared for him in the mornings, my partner prefers his coffee the old fashioned way, plain with half and half. I have to say, I prefer that taste as well, but, I will continue with the recipe provided with the butter. Why?

Well, my skin is SO much happier. All my life I've had extremely dry, and often itchy, skin. In the week and a half that I've been consuming the different variations of the coffee plus butter, my skin feels transformed. Can't speak to the memory enhancement though.

I also tried Nuvigil for a week. I do suffer from excessive sleepiness, particularly in the car or at a desk, but this stuff didn't help me. Didn't help with concentration either. It did completely erase all appetite, which was very strange for me because I'm a hearty eater. I have stopped taking it because I don't like the way it made me feel: it was like I was physically anxious, but not emotionally anxious, if that makes any sense at all.

So I had been reading and listening to the podcasts after my former trainer introduced the material to me at a dinner one evening. This morning I took the plunge and made the coffee. Instantaneously, my body felt like it was on fire. I was alert, sweating and ready for my 4:00 am workout. At the gym I hit the workout with such intensity that my 3 hour plus usual efforts were accomplished in just under 2 hours. And I was innervated beyond belief still afterwards and not hungry! Amazing!

Hi Dave- I love the bulletproof and have been drinking it for about 6 months now. I've been meaning to ask though- I'm not 'full' til 3pm or anything like that. I'm up at 6am. I'll often have just one bulletproof but occasionally two if I've got the time to make-drink-make-drink etc. I'm hungry by midday usually. Would you say your weight loss is due to the lower caloric intake? I know you ate some massive amount of calories and still lost weight but I'm confused if that is what we should be able to achieve with bulletproof fasting.... I eat 100% bulletproof and I've just cut dairy (except the butter)- any other suggestions?? Cheers. Love your work. Come to australia! ????

I am 38 and a total coffee rookie (when I go to a coffee shop I literally ask them for whatever they have that tastes closest to a choc shake, lol). Have never cared for typical coffee taste but decided to order the upgraded coffee, MCT, and anchor grass fed unsalted butter (found it on amazon) to do the recipe right.

BUT... how much of the actual coffee am I supposed to put into the coffee maker? I did take the beans and get them ground up, but I just have a standard 4 cup paper filter style coffee maker.

This morning I tried 1 tbsp coffee grinds, 4 cups water, 1 tsp mct, 2 tbsp butter and I thought it tasted pretty 'weak', but again I'm definitely not a coffee snob.

After lunch I tried 1 more tbsp coffee grinds, just 2 cups of water, 1 tsp mct, 2 tbsp butter and then blended in some ice in a ninja along with 1 tbsp choc powder (but want to try some choc whey powder - would that be ok?).

It was definitely stronger, but what is the typical coffee grind to water ratio?
